VOLUNTEER COUNSELLOR PLACEMENTS
We expect our volunteer counsellors to commit for a minimum of two years and see three clients per week.
Volunteers must have experience of working in a mental health setting and must be in at least their second year of studying for a qualification recognised by a professional body.
TLC provides a valuable opportunity for professional development. As well as offering counselling sessions, our volunteer counsellors are required to help with the running of the organisation.

Volunteers must meet the following criteria for an application to be considered:

Experience of working in a mental health setting, e.g. counselling, 1-to-1 care/help, befriending and to already have started to accrue clinical hours with real clients as part of their training (ie: part of the "fitness to practice" criterion set out by their training organisation)

Currently studying for a qualification recognised by a professional body.

In at least their second year of study at a minimum of diploma level or have significant counselling experience from a previous placement.

To be in regular, ongoing personal therapy in line with the requirements set by their training organisation, and for this to continue throughout the period of placement.

Organise and fund clinical supervision sessions every fortnight for a minimum of 1.5 hours per month, in accordance with BACP guidelines.

Use of digital tools (ie: accessing online databases, digital conferencing software and using apps, email, internet etc) to at least an intermediate standard.

To have completed less than a year ago, or be in the process of completing a DBS check.
